Default The Essentials

Here's a couple of blogging tips which I've gathered through experience and a bit of reading.

Keep to a topic

This is one of the biggest mistakes people can make. It's alright to wonder off-topic every now and then perhaps but if your blog is mainly about furniture then keep blogging about furniture. That will reduce the chance of your blog looking like a random spot on the web with a load of useless information. Don't write about your cat because no one cares... Understand what I'm saying :P ?

Update your blog regularly

If you don't have anything to say rather keep it off the web. People often make the mistake of creating a blog but after a few weeks the blog goes obsolete. Don't create a blog unless you know you will be able to maintain it. Try to create a posting schedule for yourself. Post something new every week or two...

A blog that's updated frequently is also indexed more regularly by Google/Yahoo etc. search spiders.

Old news is not news.

Blogging everyday can be tough and no one expects that of you. It is however important to keep information fresh and accurate. It doesn't help to go blogging about something that's been said on 50 other blogs/sites.

Title and Keywords

All bloggers want more comments and more traffic. Include related keywords in the title of your blog and in the titles of your blog posts. Post titles should attract attention but also remain related to the contents of the post.

Spell Checking

Do some proofreading beforehand to determine if you have any spelling mistakes. Even though in most cases you won't mind it all that much but it can do a lot of harm to your credibility as a blogger if you keep making posts with bad grammar and silly spelling mistakes and hey, it only takes a couple of minutes extra!

Post comments on other bloggers' blogs

To increase traffic to your blog post comments on blogs that host similar content to yours. This way you can provide them with useful information. The more useful your post in the reply the greater chance people will click the link back to your blog. Also, the more you comment the more backlinks you will have which will up your rank in Google. Just make sure it's to blogs that are related to yours.

Reply to comments on your blog

This is pretty straight forward. If someone comments on a post you've made on your blog at least have the decency to reply to his/her comment. That shows dedication and increases the chances of that person coming back to visit your blog at a later stage.

RSS

RSS will increase your blog's reach. It is important that you include your blog's content in an RSS feed to increase readership and distribution.

That's all for now
